Simply Elegant

This bride & groom were looking for a simple, clean-cut cake.  They chose vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream for this 3-tiered cake.  They also had 2 dark chocolate fudge sheet cakes with vanilla buttercream for extra servings.

I love the way the brilliant purple ribbon and flower topper pop against the white of the buttercream!

This cake could also be recreated with fondant for a smoother finish.

Happy Birthday...Zebra-style

This cake is a smaller-scale version of my "purse-onality" cake (earlier post).  This was done for a teenager's birthday.  It was carved out of yellow cake, frosted with vanilla buttercream, and covered with fondant.  (The purse could be styled/decorated any way, according to your taste.)

An Affair to Remember

This 3-tiered white buttercream cake has a twist on the traditional tiered wedding cake by having the middle tier be square. This was a chocolate cake with a strawberry filling.

It is beautifully accented with solid reds and black with white polka dots. It is garnished with a variety of fresh flowers, which matched the bride's bouquet.

Touchdown!

This cake was for my second son's 1st birthday.  The football was carved from a chocolate cake and covered with chocolate fondant.

The details were made with both white fondant and white buttercream.

The small cake with the mini-football on it was for my son to tear into.  His first move was to remove and eat the football!

Graduating Pirates & Camels

These cakes were for two graduates--one from ECU and one from Campbell University.

Each was decorated in the university colors.

Red Velvet, if you please!

This is a 3-layer red velvet cake.  Red velvet has a mild chocolate flavor, but my red velvet has mini chocolate chips in it for an extra punch of chocolate.

This cake is frosted with white chocolate peppermint cream cheese frosting and topped with white chocolate shavings.  If peppermint is not your thing, red velvet would also be great with chocolate buttercream or cream cheese frosting.

Chocolate, Take Me Away!

This is a 3-layer Boston Creme Cake.  It is a yellow cake filled with creme and sliced bananas.  It is frosted with chocolate buttercream and chocolate ganache.  On top are some milk chocolate curls and milk chocolate curlicues.  The border is chocolate fudge.

It's a bird. No, it's a Plane....Cake!

This cake was for my son's 3rd birthday.  He LOVES airplanes!
(His favorite feature of this cake was the fact that he got to keep the plane to play with)

Knocking it out of the Park!

This cake was for my son's 1st birthday.  The baseball was for everyone to share, but the small cake below was for him to tear into.

(Our 1st birthday tradition is to let the birthday boy have a small cake all to himself to tear into and just make a mess!  He was a bit timid at first, but then made the very wise discovery that cake is GOOD!)
